I thought it was a Chekhovian circle of stories of desperate people, simply, powerfully, authentically told. I found the play riveting throughout, and it touched me deeply. I would wholeheartedly vote for this for Best Musical this year.
Nothing is everyone’s cup of tea, and we all have different ideas of what constitutes melodrama and cliche, I suppose. (But cheap? Shakespeare has elements of melodrama.) I respect Singapore’s opinion.
Anyone who calls it simply “sooo boring” and “a snoozer” like a ten-year-old is saying much more about himself and his taste level than he is about the show.
