In a USA where the new James Bond film became a huge hit in March 2020, the next Fast and Furious movie became a huge hit in April 2020, and the Marvel movie Black Widow became a huge hit in May 2020, and moviegoing statistics were as normal, with no fear, with no capacity restrictions, and with no simultaneous streaming option, would “In the Heights”, coming closer in time to the peak of Hamilton publicity, met with these reviews, and in a summer that saw no reason at all not to celebrate, have drawn better crowds?

I can't answer your question, but the factors you cite here are only some of the major factors why it seems to me that the opening week box-office projections for IN THE HEIGHTS may have been wildly optimistic, and it's based largely on those projections (and other factors, including the movie's budget and the amount of publicity) that it' now being seen as such a disappointment.

On a related note, if anyone was counting on HAMILTON-mania to have a significant positive effect on box office receipts for IN THE HEIGHTS, I would say that was a mistake.
