I saw the film in the theater and adored it, so I am absolutely pulling for this film to have long legs a la "The Greatest Showman." But for a film that is so undeniably, unabashedly a celebration of Latino culture, we are absolutely testing the good will of our fellow Americans.
"Crazy Rich Asians," "Girls Trip," "Get Out," and numerous other films continue to teach Hollywood a lesson they refuse to learn. Americans will reward a good film with an audience, regardless of who's in the cast.
When it comes to "In the Heights," I look at American teenagers. if they embrace it, it'll have a long box office. God knows the marketing team is doing ALL THEY CAN to reach the TikTok generation. The marketing for this film has been astonishing. They're making a very clear pitch for all the teens who know every word to HAMILTON.
