who was known for operas with big spectacular effects, very popular during his lifetime (and reviled by the jealous and anti-Semitic Richard Wagner), but rarely done in future generations. Though, on the other hand, the British don't have as many famous world-wide theater composers like him historically other than G&S (and one-offs like Lionel Bart's "Oliver:), so they might be done for a while since he's given a lot to schools; it might be partly on condition that his shows be done.
