|Your post inspired me to look up exactly what was in DANCIN' and to my initial surprise I found that it was NOT at all a compilation of his Broadway work. It was all--or almost all--new choreography and to a quite varied musical selection: classical, operetta, pop and other contemporary songs, etc.
My problem with it--and it now began to come back to me--was that, yes, it WAS varied but no, the choreography was just not good enough in my opinion. His genius could not encompass all these musical demands, at least not in having to produce a full-length evening of new works.
But, as you say, this revival could change some or much of the dances that were in the original production. And it could(I really really doubt it)be as successful commercially as the original. Fosse, especially since the recent mini-series(which I'm sure was a big factor for this revival)is hot stuff.
