Good point about A Chorus Line. It ran 759 performances and apparently recouped in only 19 weeks, according to Playbill. That's why I mentoined the caveat above about needing the producrion costs to know for sure. We know that with its simple set and costumes ACL must have a very low capitalization and weekly running cost. I didn't know that about Promises. Maybe there are many examples like this, which would make my basic assumption false.
