In recent years, the Tony for Best Play Revival includes the playwright if he/she is still living. Harold Pinter died in 2008.

Interestingly, the citation for ''Frankie & Johnny'' includes Terrence McNally, even though he passed away in March 2020.

I'm speculating McNally's name is still attached because he was alive when the revival played last summer.

(Due to this rule change, Mart Crowley won a Tony for Play Revival last year, even though he wrote ''The Boys in the Band'' in 1968.)
