I’m very much of the opinion we should “just give” a Tony to ANYBODY. I haven’t seen Aaron Tveit in “Moulin Rouge” but pre-COVID, he wasn’t considered a front-runner to win, and I don’t recall anyone praising his performance enough to be considered Tony-worthy. If there aren’t any performances worth recognizing with theater’s highest honor, the category should be eliminated.

I’ve also said it a few times here before - but I’m really surprised there hasn’t been serious discussion of non-gendered performance categories this season (maybe forever?).

An all-inclusive Best Leading Performance in a Musical and Best Featured Performance in a Musical would fill categories with worthy performances, and would still likely see awards given to Adrienne Warren and Danny Burstein (who are more than deserving this season).

I don’t want to see someone win a Tony just because they were “better” than the one other option.

I am predicting that the award for Best Original Score will be eliminated this year - perhaps even Best Book of a Musical, although that’s a bolder prediction.
