Let me remind you that awards are no grand judgement of history, they're just someone's opinion. Tony voters gave Two Gentlemen of Verona best musical over Follies because they liked it better, and there's nothing terrible about that. Possibly they thought it was more engaging, and if so I think they had a point. The Oscar voters thought Crash was a better movie than Brokeback Mountain, and I must say I think they had a point too - regardless of which film advanced the cause of gay rights. I've never seen The Greatest Show on Earth, but I'm sure those voters liked that film, too.
