Cromwell was only Lord Protector for something like 4-3/4 years. Are you sure theatre was banned for 10 years? To keep this on topic, the musical Something Rotten! takes place during the years when Cromwell was growing up and beginning his formative years. The character Brother Jeremiah sort of represents the anti-theatre fervor that Cromwell would eventually embody.

BTW, after Cromwell died, the monarchy was restored, Cromwell's corpse was exhumed, and he was beheaded. Now that's what I call restoring national support for the arts.
