My parents actually saw Tucker when The Music Man tour hit Chicago in '59. I believe Susan Luckey was playing Zaneeta at that time. I was only 9 years old, but I wish they had taken me with them. Unfortunately I had to babysit my younger siblings. My mom had bought me the OBC LP the previous year, and I loved the songs.
Forrest Tucker played Hill in Chicago for at least a year. He was such a hit here that he would come back to Chicago periodically in shows like Plaza Suite, That Championship Season, and Life with Father among others over the next 2 decades.
My dad always insisted that Tucker was better in the role than Preston was in the film version. I'm pretty sure that I saw Tucker perform "Trouble" at some point on The Ed Sullivan Show. |
