|I've often wondered what happens the next day in River City. The parents' joy at the kids "playing" will surely ebb and will they expect Harold Hill to actually lead a band and/or teach them to play these instruments? Perhaps Marian can pitch in, if she's able to play anything other than the piano (some musicians seem to have an innate instinct for how to play instruments that they've never attempted before) and even teach Harold enough to be a bandleader. That's a lot for a woman who already has a full time job.
Of course, Harold Hill isn't even really his name. Does he come clean about that or go off somewhere to legally change his name? If he and Marian are to marry, he can't get married as "Harold Hill" unless he does something legally to change his name.
And, of course, assuming that Harold is sticking around at all...is this bandleader gig a salaried position? Or is he going to have to find actual employment, like Marcellus did? And will he ever face any consequences for his actions? If he stays in town long enough, it might be assumed that people in other towns who've been swindled might hear about it and come after him. Marian might be smart to tell him to leave River City and go get his life straightened out and come back in 6 months or a year or whatever and see if they can be together. There's kind of no point to any of it if he's just going to be arrested and hauled back to Indiana or wherever on fraud charges.
