I think he wins the dance off with Bob Fosse in the Betty Garrett-Janet Leigh "My Sister Eileen" movie. Good as Fosse was, Rall was even better. Apparently someone at MGM must not have liked Rall very much since he didn't get very good billing for the "Kiss Me, Kate" film in what is clearly one of the second leads. "Kiss Me, Kate" and "7 Brides" were really made pretty much at the end of the collapsing studio system where MGM and the other studios let even most of its biggest stars' contracts expire, so unfortunately not as many musicals were being made afterwards; most of them were blockbusters or Broadway titles, but they were a fraction being turned out from what had been made in the studio system. He did show up in the rather unfortunately "Swan" number in "Funny Girl" (not his fault it wasn't funny). He had a fine singing voice, and I believe he turned to singing opera for a while after transitioning from dancing. He's someone who should have had a better career, but who is certainly acknowledged by lovers of musicals for his talents. Rest in peace.
