Good point. Very good point. but I would assert that it was the very amazing-ness of Ashley's Corie that enabled the play to work...she does finally get him to go barefoot in the park...ultimately she does bust out of the female straitjacket and the conservative behaviors. So too Sandy Dennis as Ellen. And every actress who ever played Nora, too.
I see where I am wrong in what I said...but there is some map for busting out of the female straitjacket of wife-hood that is integral to these pre-feminist comedies. I think.
