Broadway Grosses 7/16: Up nearly 10% / Bette Midler & Brendon Urie star power / Oslo exits strong

  • Last week, ended July 16, grosses totaled $31,921,295 for 30 shows.

    In the prior week, ended July 9, Broadway grosses totaled $29,082,684 for the same 30 shows.

    In the comparable week last year, Broadway grosses totaled $27,125,142 for 30 shows.




  • Broadway had a strong summer week with grosses up nearly 10% from the prior week for the same 30 shows. The average ticket price was a high $119.

    — Bette Midler returned to Hello, Dolly! after a two-week vacation. The gross increased from the prior week by $1,509,588 to $2,232,162.

    — Brendon Urie once again returned the long-running Kinky Boots to SRO capacity. The gross was $1,392,657. He ends his limited engagement on August 6.




  • Oslo closed on Sunday at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre after 23 previews and 109 regular performances. The not-for-profit Lincoln Center Theater production originally played a two-month Off Broadway engagement last summer at the Mitzi Newhouse Theatre in the same building before moving upstairs to the Beaumont. The play won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Play. This production with a new cast will play at London’s National Theatre (Lyttelton) for a brief engagement between September 5 and 23 and then transfer commercially to the West End on September 30. Cumulative gross for the Broadway engagement: $10,875,255. The average ticket price was $88, and it should be noted that LCT members purchased seats at $50 for previews and $60 for regular performances. Seat occupancy, paid and comped, averaged 89% over the run. Closing week was the high point with a gross of $898,524, an amount that was an increase of $229,054 over the prior week.
