Not really a puzzlement. The play was a modest hit -- it recouped and turned a small profit. Extending beyond 6/27/10 would have required recasting, which is expensive and chancy (in a commercial sense). The Tony wins pretty much guaranteed that there would be a strong life in regional theatre. I assume that rather than risk losing their profit, the producers chose to close the show.
