They're prisoners making license plates. It never was an issue for me WHY they're dancing, let alone with license plates on their feet.
It's a musical, and it was perfectly in line with the show's goofy spirit. Granted, the version of ''A Little Upset'' on the Tonys is quite abridged, so Ashford had to cut out some stuff that bridged some of the moments. ... I agree that Ashford's choreography is often athletic, but I totally disagree that he doesn't care about story. Actually, if you saw the show, that number carried a lot of plot (along with other characters who got cut for time).
Some have criticized Stroman for using too many props in ''Crazy for You,'' but that didn't bother me either. I found it fun and inventive.
